Two Prominent McCain Supporters Resign Due to Lobbying Activities for Myanmar Government

  • Douglas Goodyear, who was reportedly chosen by John McCain to coordinate the U.S. Republican National Convention this September, and Doug Davenport, a regional campaign manager for McCain, resigned from their positions this last weekend.

  • The two resigned due to ties their employer, a lobbying firm by the name of DCI Group had to Myanmar's military government.

  • Douglas Goodyear, a co-founder of DCI Group, currently serves as DCI's CEO and it is reported that Doug Davenport was directly in charge of the lobbying efforts being conducted on Myanmar's behalf.

  • The connection between DCI and Myanmar became public this weekend when Newsweek reported that the firm had been paid more than $348,000 in 2002 and 2003 by Myanmar's military leadership for "lobbying work to improve its image in the US."
