Alan Keyes, who was recently beaten 3-to-1 for the Constitution Party nomination for President, has decided to continue his run for President as an “Independent”. In order to facilitate with ballot-access, Keyes is trying to start a new party called “America’s Independent Party”. He has groupings of supporters in Texas, California, Florida, New York and Missouri. In what was their first major ballot-access hurdle, the Keyes campaign has failed to get on the ballot in Texas—collecting only 10,000 signatures. This is actually an impressive effort considering they had no time, no money, and no real support for such an effort, but nowhere near the 74,000 needed.Next Keyes will be attempting to complete petitions in Arizona, New Mexico, North Carolina, Colorado, Connecticut, and Illinois—and it is unlikely he’ll get on the ballot in any of these states except for Colorado.

• The home page for Alan Keyes is displaying live streaming video of Keyes at the Constitution Party Convention which is being held April 23-26, 2008 in Kansas City, Missouri.
• When I tuned in the scene was of Keyes sitting in his hotel room or possibly hotel lobby telling a story to another gentleman about a particularly bad golf outing he had. He then decided to go for a cup of coffee and now the feed is just a video of the empty room with the occasional sound of the elevator bell in the background.
• Although odd and unusual I was compelled to watch.

• The third annual Right to Keep and Bear Arms rally was held today in Pennsylvania.
• According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette "The rally was led by Pennsylvania state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe along with with several dozen lawmakers standing in support behind him. From the Pittsburgh area these included Reps. Marc Gergely, D-White Oak; Joseph Markosek, D-Monroeville; Tim Solobay, D-Washington; Jim Marshall, R-Beaver; Mike Turzai, R-Bradford Woods; and Randy Vulakovich, R-Shaler."
• Also speaking at the event was the executive director of Gun Owners of America, Larry Pratt, and Presidential candidate Alan Keyes who was quoted as saying "I know the gun-control people say they care about the preservation of human life, but you cannot defend life if you give up the means of that defense,"

"In an age of terrorism we can never delegate to the government the responsibility for defense of our lives, I will not surrender that [freedom] which God has advised me to defend,"

Why Indecision 2008 Endorsed Alan Keyes for President

• This week Indecision 2008 announced it would endorse Republican Alan
  Keyes for President because.....
  
  

  Barack Obama lacks experience and has shown us time and again that he is utterly incapable of answering a telephone after 2:30 or so a.m. Also, he's friends with a guy who says mean things about America sometimes, and we don't like that.
  
  Hillary Clinton has outed herself as a liar -- and not just any kind of liar, but one who isn't smart enough to not lie about things that television crews have caught on videotape. And we think her husband is kind of a douche these days.
  
  And John McCain is old and he has a weird unsightly growth on the side of his face. What the hell is up with that thing? It's weird.

• Keyes is expected to announce that he is leaving the Republican Party on
  tax day, April 15th to join the Constitution Party.
• According to their website the "Seven Principles of the Constitution
  Party" are:
  
  1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
  2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
  3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
  4. Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;

• Republican Presidential candidate Alan Keyes is scheduled to speak at Pregnancy Helpline Celebration of Life event on April 10, 2008.
• The event is a fundraiser for a crisis pregnancy center and will take place in the auditorium of Brighton Church of the Nazarene in Michigan.
• This is the second pro life event he has spoken at in the last month.
• On March 14th Keyes was the keynote speaker at the St. Cloud's Pregnancy Resource Center Fundraiser in Minnesota.

• On Friday, March 14, 2008 Alan Keyes spoke at the St. Cloud's Pregnancy Resource Center Fundraiser in Minnesota.
• This was not a campaign stop for the Republican Presidential candidate who was scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the "Share in Life Celebration 2008" event before he announced his candidacy.
• His address focused on what he referred to as the "daily holocaust" of abortion saying:

"We are not gathered here tonight because we oppose abortion. We are not here
because we want to end this or that," he told the crowd. "We are gathered here
tonight because we are grateful for the share that God has given us in the very
glory of creation."

• With between 86% and 100% of precincts reporting John McCain received 1,382,699 votes to Mike Huckabee's 855,658, Ron Paul's 122,659 and Alan Keyes's 8,865 in the Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont primaries.
• John McCain received 60%, 65%, 51% and 72% of the votes in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont respectively while Huckabee received 31%, 22%, 38% and 14%, Paul received 5%, 7%, 5% and 7% and Keyes received 0%, 0%, 1% and 0% for the same states.
• The remaining percentage of voters cast their votes for former candidates Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani, Duncan Hunter, Cort, Tran and "Uncommitted".
