Is Rezko More of an Election Story than Norman Hsu?

  • Is either story a 2008 election story?

  • According to a http://www.newsday.com/ story "Hsu persuaded his victims to invest at least $60 million from 2000 through August 2007 in companies that supposedly extended short-term financing to businesses. It said he used the money instead to further his fraudulent goals. The government said he lost at least $20 million of the investor money."

  • The article goes on to say that "Hsu raised more than $1.2 million for her (Hillary Clinton) and other Democratic candidates in recent years. Her campaign has since returned more than $800,000 to donors whose contributions were linked to him."

  • Tony Rezko "was indicted for extortion of businesses seeking to do business with the Illinois Teachers Retirement System Board and the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. In addition, he has been charged with wire fraud for staging false transactions of his pizza stores in order to secure $10 million in loans from GE Capital" according to Wikipedia.com.

  • Rezko "raised funds for many politicians, both Democrats and Republicans. These include prominent Democrats, such as Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, U.S. Senator and Presidential Candidate Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Comptroller Dan Hynes, former Cook County Board President John Stroger, and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. Rezko has also raised money for former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, a Republican, and he co-chaired a megamillion-dollar fund-raiser for President George W. Bush in 2003"
