Catching Up on the Republican 2012 Primary

I've been tied up with my paying job and not posting as much as I'd like to lately so let's recap what's happened since we left off:

• Huntsman and Perry are out
• The Iowa caucus results will never be official because of the "lost" votes
• Santorum won Iowa, Romney won New Hampshire and Gingrich won South Carolina
• Gingrich has one win and two fourth place finishes.
• Paul has one second, third and fourth place finishes.
• Romney has one win and two second place finishes.
• Santorum has one win, one third and one fifth place finish,
• Florida's closed primary is up next
• Tentative delegate counts are as follows: Romney 34, Gingrich 28, Paul 10 and Santorum 8.

Ron Paul satisfies ballot requirements for all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico

• Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul's campaign issued a press release on March 21st stating that he has satisfied the ballot requirements for all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico as of March 20, 2008.
• It should be noted that Puerto Rico already held its Republican Caucus on February 24, 2008. The caucus was won by John McCain with 188 votes to Mike Huckabee's 10 and Ron Paul's 9.
• The District of Columbia held their Primary on February 12, 2008.
• John McCain won the DC Primary with 3,929 votes to Mike Huckabee's 961, Ron Paul's 471 and Mitt Romney's 350 votes.

• With 86% to 100% of precincts reporting results for the March 4th primaries in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont the total votes cast equaled 7,891,584. This figure is exclusive of the Texas Democratic Caucus results which are still being tabulated.
• Overall, Hillary Clinton received 2,710,332 of the votes to Barack Obama's 2,487,028, John McCain's 1,382,609, Mike Huckabee's 855,658, Ron Paul's 122,659, and Alan Keyes's 8,685.

McCain Wins Republican February 19th Primaries By 393,307 Votes

• With between 62% and 100% of precincts reporting John McCain received 424,912 votes to Mike Huckabee's 241,248, Ron Paul's 49,956 and Alan Keyes's 1,605 in the Washington and Wisconsin primaries.
• John McCain received 49% and 55% of the votes in Washington and Wisconsin respectively while Huckabee received 22% and 37%, Paul received 7% and 5% and Keyes received 0%, for the same states. The remaining percentage of voters cast their votes for former candidates Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo.

• With between 95% and 99% of precincts reporting John McCain received 408,638 votes to Mike Huckabee's 284,169, Ron Paul's 39,882 and Alan Keyes's 2,951 in the Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC primaries.
• John McCain received 50%, 55% and 68% of the votes in Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC respectively while Huckabee received 41%, 29% and 17%, Paul received 5%, 6%, 8% and Keyes received 0%, 1% and 0% for the same states. The remaining percentage of voters cast their votes for former candidates Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani, Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo.

Tears...Hillary vs. Romney

• On February 4, 2008 Hillary teared up again on the campaign trail gaining national media attention.
• Coincidentally, her second cry is the day before a major primary, much like her cry before the New Hampshire primary.
• Mitt Romney has teared up three times on the campaign trail yet, he does not garner the same media attention as Hillary. Double standard? Decide for yourself.
• Today, while looking up information on Hillary's latest cry I came across a story from the Boston Globe chronicling Romney's three teary moments.
• Moment one came at the end of his televised speech on religion, two was during an appearance on ""Meet the Press," when he recalled the moment in 1978 when he heard that the Mormon Church had ended its ban on full participation by black members." and three occurred when "Romney told a stock campaign story about watching the casket of a US soldier killed in Iraq come off the conveyor belt of a plane at Logan International Airport in Boston. The soldiers he was with saluted and passengers in the terminal paused and put their hands on their hearts"

MTV/My Space Forum 'Closing Arguments: A Presidential Super Dialogue'

'Closing Arguments: A Presidential Super Dialogue' was presented in a unique format in that each candidate received their own turn to fully respond to questions submitted by the audience and via the internet. One of the most interesting aspects was that live polling on the candidates responses to questions was shared with the candidate as the forum unfolded.

Ron Paul, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee participated in the forum while Mitt Romney and John McCain declined their invitations.

McCain and Paul Separated by Only 107 Votes in Preliminary Maine Caucus Results

• With 68% of precincts reporting Mitt Romney appears to lead the Maine Republican Caucus with 52% of votes.
• John McCain and Ron Paul are a close second and third separated by only 107 votes.
• At 6% Mike Huckabee is currently in fourth place.

Presidential Candidates Find Time to Write 47 Books

Last week I was reading about Michelle Obama's campaign speech in Delaware in which she said that she and Barack Obama were able to repay all of their student loans only after he wrote two best-selling books. Already knowing that Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee had written books it peaked my interest as to what other candidates also had found the time to write about.

• Mitt Romney and John McCain are said to be in a dead heat. The Detroit News/WXYZ Action News poll this was based on asked 604 likely Republican voters and hard a margin of error of 4%.
