Hillary Clinton Wins March 4th Democratic Primary by 223,304 Votes

  • With between 86% and 100% of precincts reporting Hillary Clinton received 2,710,332 to Barack Obama's 2,487,028 in the Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont primaries.
  • Hillary Clinton received 54%, 58%, 51% and 38% of the votes in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont respectively while Obama received 44%, 40%, 47% and 60% for the same states.
  • The remaining percentage of votes cast were for former candidates Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Kucinich and as "Uncommitted" and "Other".

John McCain Wins March 4th Republican Primaries by 395,517 Votes

  • With between 86% and 100% of precincts reporting John McCain received 1,382,699 votes to Mike Huckabee's 855,658, Ron Paul's 122,659 and Alan Keyes's 8,865 in the Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont primaries.
  • John McCain received 60%, 65%, 51% and 72% of the votes in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont respectively while Huckabee received 31%, 22%, 38% and 14%, Paul received 5%, 7%, 5% and 7% and Keyes received 0%, 0%, 1% and 0% for the same states.
  • The remaining percentage of voters cast their votes for former candidates Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Rudy Guiliani, Duncan Hunter, Cort, Tran and "Uncommitted".

Overall Results of March 4th Democratic and Republican Primaries

  • With 86% to 100% of precincts reporting results for the March 4th primaries in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont the total votes cast equaled 7,891,584. This figure is exclusive of the Texas Democratic Caucus results which are still being tabulated.
  • Overall, Hillary Clinton received 2,710,332 of the votes to Barack Obama's 2,487,028, John McCain's 1,382,609, Mike Huckabee's 855,658, Ron Paul's 122,659, and Alan Keyes's 8,685.
  • The remaining 218,935 votes were cast for Edwards, Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Kucinich, Romney, Thompson, Cort, Hunter, Guiliani, Tran, "Uncommitted" and "Other".

Latest RCP Poll Results for March 4th Primaries

  • Real Clear Politics's polls show Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama each leading in two of the four states headed into the March 4th primaries.

  • Clinton has the lead in Ohio and Rhode Island by 3.8% and 10.7% respectively.

  • Obama has the lead in Texas and Vermont by 1.2% and 24% respectively.

  • On the Republican side Real Clear Politics's polls show John McCain leading Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul in Texas, Ohio and Vermont. Polling data was not posted for Rhode Island.

  • McCain leads the polls in Ohio with 55% to Mike Huckabee's 32.8% and Ron Paul's 7%.

  • In Ohio McCain leads with 57% to Huckabee's 26.8% and Paul's 6%.

  • Lastly, in Vermont the polls show McCain leading 68% to Huckabee's 17% and Paul's 5%.
