Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul eclipsed an important milestone in yesterdays primaries in Indiana and North Carolina. By winning over 71,000 votes, Dr. Paul has earned the backing of over one million supporters across America. “By voting and caucusing for Dr. Paul, one million Republicans have sent a powerful message to our leaders that they want the GOP to return to its traditions of limited government, personal liberty and a strong national defense,” said campaign spokesman Jesse Benton. “Dr. Paul and the grassroots movement he has inspired are building a bright future for the Republican Party and the United states of America.”

AP: North Carolina Gov. Easley endorses Clinton for president

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Governor Mike Easley has endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

At a joint appearance in Raleigh Tuesday morning, the two-term Democrat said Clinton "gets it."
"It's time for somebody to be in the White House who understands the challenges we face in this country," Easley said.

Easley's endorsement comes a week before the state's May 6 primary. It's a boost for the former first lady, who is trailing Barack Obama in most state polls.

Easley is the second North Carolina superdelegate to endorse Clinton. Obama has the backing of six superdelegates in the state.

Easley and Clinton began the day touring a biotechnology lab at North Carolina State University.

Respect or Politics? McCain Asks North Carolina Republicans To Halt Negative Ad About Obama

• The following is a video of a television ad that the North Carolina Republican Party plans to air starting next Monday:

• John McCain has asked the North Carolina GOP not to run the ad telling reporters "I'm sending them an e-mail as we speak asking them to take it down. I don't know why they do it. Obviously, I don't control them. But I'm making it very clear that there's no place for that."
• Reuters reports that RNC Chairman Mike Duncan also tried to call the chair of the North Carolina GOP to request that the ad be withdrawn.

• Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have been invited to participate in a debate on April 27th in a joint letter from the North Carolina Democratic Party and CBS News. Click here for a copy of the letters to Clinton and Obama.
• The proposed debate would be held from 8:00 to 9:30 EST and would be hosted by Katie Couric and Bob Schieffer.
• Barack Obama had previously accepted an invitation to participate in the North Carolina debate which was originally scheduled two days before the Pennsylvania Primary.
• Clinton did not accept CBS's debate invitation initially. Her decision may have been linked to the fact that the CBS Evening news anchored by Katie Couric aired the original video and report debunking Hillary Clinton's Bosnia sniper fire story mentioned in her Iraq War Speech.
• The two candidates are also scheduled to debate in Pennsylvania on April 16, 2008.
