Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas and defeated contender for the GOP presidential nomination, is currently at the top of John McCain's short list for a running mate. At least that's the word from a top McCain fundraiser and longtime Republican moneyman who has spoken to McCain's inner circle. The fundraiser is less than thrilled with the idea of Huckabee as the vice presidential nominee, and many economic conservatives—turned off by the populist tone of Huckabee's campaign and his tax record as governor—are likely to share that marked lack of enthusiasm. • Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul's campaign issued a press release on March 21st stating that he has satisfied the ballot requirements for all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico as of March 20, 2008.

• Real Clear Politics's polls show Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama each leading in two of the four states headed into the March 4th primaries.


• Clinton has the lead in Ohio and Rhode Island by 3.8% and 10.7% respectively.


• Obama has the lead in Texas and Vermont by 1.2% and 24% respectively.


• On the Republican side Real Clear Politics's polls show John McCain leading Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul in Texas, Ohio and Vermont. Polling data was not posted for Rhode Island.

News Release: Mike Huckabee Accepts Values Voter Presidential Debate Invitation
February 27, 2008

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee accepted an invitation to participate in a Values Voter Presidential Debate to be held on Monday, March 3, 2008. Huckabee received the invitation on Wednesday, February 27, for the debate which would also include Senator John McCain, Congressman Ron Paul.

"I look forward to discussing the issues that are important to the people of America such as health care, education, energy independence, terrorism and national security," Huckabee wrote in his letter of acceptance. "I will clear my schedule to make time for this important debate, provided Sen. McCain participates, otherwise we will keep our current campaign schedule."

On Tuesday, Huckabee challenged Sen. McCain to a Lincoln- Douglas Style debate, but has yet to receive an acceptance from Sen. McCain.

The Values Voter debate is scheduled to be held at the Marriott Riverwalk, 711 E. Riverwalk St. in San Antonio, Tex.

Vermont May Be Ron Paul's Best Chance to Win

• American Research Group's recent poll shows John McCain at 73%, Ron Paul at 11% and Mike Huckabee at 9% in the Vermont primary on March 4th.


• The Burlington Free Press reports that " if on-the-ground organization in the state was the sole factor in predicting success in the state's March 4 primary, Paul would be vying for victory with McCain. "

• Janet Huckabee, age 53, is the wife of former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee.


• She and John met in high school and were married shortly after her high school graduation.


• Two years later when Janet was 20 she was diagnosed with spinal cancer and faced the prospect of being paralyzed. After surgery and radiation Janet recovered.


• She later attended Ouachita Baptist University and John Brown University.

Huckabee Get Second Chance in Washington State on 2/19/08

• Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was upset last week when John McCain was declared the winner of the Washington State Republican Caucus and counting of the votes was halted before 100% of the precincts had been counted. After receiving complaints the Washington Republican Chairman Luke Esser had counting resume on February 10, 2008.


• The results showed John McCain winning with 26% of the vote compared to Mike Huckabee's 24% and Ron Paul's 22% with 96% of precincts reporting.


• John McCain and Mike Huckabee were only separated by 293 votes.


• Washington is one of the few states to hold both a caucus and a primary. As a result Mike Huckabee will get a second chance to have all of the votes counted with the February 19, 2008 primary.
