Obama Campaign Responds to Clinton Wisconsin Ad

According to www.foxnews.com Wiconsin's Governor responded to Hillary Clinton's ad as follows:
“For her to do this - claiming that Senator Obama somehow isn’t making himself available when he has been all over the state, and as we speak today, she has yet to even be in the state during the week leading up to this primary,” Governor Jim doyle said on a conference call yesterday**. “Fact is, he’s out here in the state having a one-sided debate right now and the only campaign she has going on in Wisconsin is negative TV ads,” he added later.

Ron Paul Will Not Endorse John McCain
- The Chicago Tribune reports that in a telephone interview on February 11, 2008 Ron Paul said he will not support John McCain as the Republican nominee.
- According to the article Dr. Paul said "I cannot support anybody with the foreign policy he advocates, you know, perpetual war. That is just so disturbing to me," he then went on to say "I think it's un-American, unconstitutional, immoral and not Republican."

Ron Paul Will Not Endorse John McCain
Huckabee Get Second Chance in Washington State on 2/19/08
- Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was upset last week when John McCain was declared the winner of the Washington State Republican Caucus and counting of the votes was halted before 100% of the precincts had been counted. After receiving complaints the Washington Republican Chairman Luke Esser had counting resume on February 10, 2008.
- The results showed John McCain winning with 26% of the vote compared to Mike Huckabee's 24% and Ron Paul's 22% with 96% of precincts reporting.
- John McCain and Mike Huckabee were only separated by 293 votes.
- Washington is one of the few states to hold both a caucus and a primary. As a result Mike Huckabee will get a second chance to have all of the votes counted with the February 19, 2008 primary.

John McCain Requests Withdrawal from Presidential Election Financing System
- According to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) "public financing of Presidential candidates was first proposed....in 1907. In his State of the Union message that year, President Theodore Roosevelt recommended public financing of federal elections and a ban on private contributions."
- Several attempts were made to pass the legislation and in 1974 the third amendment to the Federal Election Campaign Act was passed and the first public financing began in 1976.
- If they meet certain criteria Presidential Primary candidates are eligible for partial public financing in the form of matching funds. According to the FEC "The federal government will match up to $250 of an individual's total contributions to an eligible candidate." The candidate must also agree to:
- Limit campaign spending for all primary elections to $10 million plus a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA).
- Limit campaign spending in each state to $200,000 plus COLA, or to a specified amount based on the number of voting age individuals in the state (plus COLA), whichever is greater.
- Limit spending from personal funds to $50,000.
- The Presidential Election Campaign Fund that actually issues the checks to the campaigns is funded with the $3.00 that taxpayers can designate by checking a box on their Federal Income Tax returns.
- According to the Associated Press John McCain is the only remaining candidate to request public financing. Reportedly he submitted the request last summer but, has yet to receive the funds which will be available next month.
- Using the public financing will limit the amount of money McCain can spend on his primary campaign to approximately $54 million.
- Last week McCain submitted a letter to the FEC asking to withdraw his previous request for public financing.
- The AP reports that similar requests were approved by the FEC for Elizabeth Dole and Howard Dean but, that the "commission does not have a quorum and would be unable to approve McCains's request"

- Democratic Presidential Nominee Barack Obama is currently trading up 0.5 at 71.3 to win the party's nomination. According to the one month chart Obama was 20K a month ago and is up to a closing price of 70.8K as of 2/15/08 with total trading volume of 1,548K. The one month high was 75K and the low was 5K.
- Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton is currently trading up 0.1 at 29.0 to win the party's nomination. According to the one month chart Clinton was 70.5K a month ago and is down to a closing price of 28.9K as of 2/15/08 with total trading volume of 0.673K. The one month high was 67K and the low was 25K.
- To win the overall Presidential election Obama is trading at 48.0 to John McCain 's 34.1 and Hillary's 18.0.
- Other contracts being traded include VP picks, whether or not Michael Bloomberg will run as an Independent and whether or not Ron Paul will run as a third party candidate.
